Viola Davis is fabulous!
The Oscar winner tops AARPโs Movies for Grownupsโ 25 Most Fabulous Gen X Actresses list, which โhonors powerhouse female talent who continue to break barriers, command screens, and redefine what it means to be a Gen X actress in Hollywood,โ according a news release.
The rankings pay homage to Generation X, which is classified as people born between roughly 1965 and 1980.
โNow, at roughly between the ages of 45 to 61, this generation of Hollywood actresses have not faded from the screen, but have built production companies, developed their own projects, and reinvented themselves behind the camera as directors, producers, and entrepreneurs fighting for equal pay and breaking stereotypes,โ AARPโs Movies for Grownups said in a statement.
โThey are far from slowing down and are doing the most ambitious work of their careers.โ
Davis, 61, is the oldest person on the list and said in a statement connected to the honor, โMy ability to overcome and to challenge and to believe in my ability is mine.โ She survived a poor childhood marked by food insecurity to emerge as a critically acclaimed actor, winning a best supporting actress Academy Award for โFencesโ and earning three other nominations in her career.
โWhen you come to Hollywood, I think women over 40, then over 50, you feel like youโve just sort of disappeared and fallen off a cliff,โ she told AARPโs Movies for Grownups. โLike youโre invisible. So, itโs nice to know that thatโs not true. I feel like my value is going up. It feels fabulous.โ
