The latest celeb guest on โPasswordโ is none other than TODAYโs Savannah Guthrie!
Savannah appeared on two episodes of the NBC game show that aired Sept. 1 alongside Jimmy Fallon and host Keke Palmer. In both episodes, Savannah showed off her impressive guessing skills while helping each contestant earn enough points to make it to the next round and eventually compete for the grand prize of $25,000.
The TODAY co-host practically bounced onto the set when Palmer introduced her in the first episode, titled โLike Nails on a Chalkboard.โ After Fallon shared a fun fact about his contestant, Justin, Savannah gave her contestant, Kia, a warm welcome. She revealed that Kia is a minister of 20 years.
Kia explained that as a minister she likes to โencourage people to use their gift and walk in their calling.โ She also said that she met her husband at church.
โHe was supposed to be looking at the minister, but instead he was looking at me. And I was looking at him back,โ she cheekily said.
After their first round as a pair, Savannah and Kia took the lead. For round two, the clue was the title of the episode, meaning that all the passwords were words โthat make you cover your ears.โ Savannah and Fallon swapped partners, and Kia won again, securing a spot in the โBonus Round.โ
For the last round, Kia had to get Savannah and Fallon to correctly guess 10 passwords. But, they only gave nine right answers, which earned Kia $9,000.
Kia then had one final chance to double her money. She was given a secret password and could only share one clue with Savannah and Fallon. Her clue was guacamole. Fallon and Savannah correctly figured out the password was avocado. Kia celebrated with the duo and left the show $18,000 richer.
For part two, titled โWhat Beats Scissors,โ Savannah returned to team up with Chantae and Michael. Her first partner was Michael, who Savannah revealed recently got engaged. Michael shared that he popped the question to his partner Christopher of eight years during a trip to England. โI pulled a ring out and I said some nice things and he said โyes,โโ he gushed.
By the end of round one, Savannah and Michael led Fallon and Chantae 16 to 9. In round two, the title of the episode once again became the clue as all the passwords were answers โthat rock.โ Although Savannah and Chantae briefly grabbed the lead, Fallon and Michael took the victory.
In the โBonus Round,โ Michael struggled and the hopes of winning $25,000 disappeared. However, he still won $8,000 and was able to double his winnings.
When Michael delivered his final clue of โsweep,โ Savannah and Fallon instantly knew that the last password was โchimney.โ
They were right and Michael hugged the two before walking away with $16,000.
Savannah and Fallon cheered, successfully helping two contestants double their cash prize.
The game show experience will come in handy for Savannah, who will soon host the upcoming โWordleโ competition series inspired by the popular puzzle game. Her new show is set to premiere on NBC in 2027.
