Ms. Jackson has entered the building.
Pop icon Janet Jackson, 60, stepped out for a rare public appearance at Dancers Against Cancer’s Gala of the Stars on Oct. 22 in Beverly Hills. Jackson, who presented an award to rapper Missy Elliott later on in the night, shut down the red carpet with her absolutely nasty look.
“Janet is ageless! That dress is stunning!” one social media user wrote on platform Threads.
Jackson’s ensemble featured a black lace, custom Christian Siriano gown. The dress included long sleeves and a peplum skirt around the hips. She completed the look with an elegant slicked-back ‘do.
The look received praise across the internet, including from a couple of style icons in their own right.
“Major,” celebrity stylist Law Roach commented under a photo of the pop god.
Jackson’s appearance was part of a star-studded event that aimed to raise funds to help support dancers, choreographers and their families amid battles with cancer. The event, hosted by “Dancing With The Stars” alum Maksim Chmerkovskiy, honored a number of big names in dance, including Toni Basil, Hilaria Baldwin, Vincent Paterson and the late Chita Rivera.
Jackson introduced honoree Missy Elliott before presenting the “Work It” rapper with the Icon Award. In her heartfelt speech, Jackson described the rapper, who’s long been known for imaginative dance routines in music videos and performances, as someone who “elevated choreography, embraced individuality, and inspired generations of dancers to dream bigger.”
“That influence lives far beyond a single song or a single performance,” Jackson said in the speech, which received tremendous applause. “It lives in every artist who feels a little braver because Missy showed them what was possible.”
Elliott later shared a heartfelt post about her friend Jackson.
“Dear @janetjackson we have been friends way over two decades, & I still am one of your BIGGEST fans! Of course, I’m a fan of your music, BUT I’m the biggest fan of YOU, the PERSON!” Elliott wrote in the emotional Instagram post. “With all that you’ve done globally, you have NEVER been loudest in the room, but those in the room know you are MOTHA! Your SELFLESSNESS & HUMILITY should be studied! Your beauty outside matches the INSIDE!”
Elliott concluded by expressing her love for Jackson.
“I Love you, j, & thank you for this award it’s the best feeling getting a ICON award from a ICON!” she wrote.
