Kathie Lee Gifford is single and enjoying her life.
The longtime talk show personality and former TODAY co-host opened up in the cover story for the July 13 issue of People about how she views dating at 72 years old and the possibility of ever getting married again.
βI am not dating anybody right now, and I donβt want to date anybody,β she said. βIβm not looking, and I donβt think Iβll ever get married again. No, I donβt. I think I had an opportunity for that to maybe have happened, and it didnβt work out, so you move on. You stay friends if you can, and we have.β
Gifford said on TODAY in 2021 that she was in βa very special relationshipβ with a man whose name she did not divulge. However, Gifford shared with People in 2024 that she was no longer dating her mystery man.
She was previously married to Frank Gifford, a legendary New York Giants player and sports broadcaster, for 29 years before his death at 84 in 2015.
In her latest interview with People, also available on the People app, she did not completely shut the door on romance if the opportunity comes along.
βYou know what it is? I leave room for the miraculous in my life. If God wants to do something miraculous to my life like give me another great love,β she said. βFrank will always be the love of my life. If youβre looking, then youβre looking for the love of the rest of your life.
βI need to find joy in the moment Iβm in right now because none of us know when is our last breath,β she continued. βInstead of planning, βOne day Iβm going to take that vacation, one day this, my bucket list,β that kind of thing, find joy right now in what you have already.β
The four-time Emmy winner and grandmother of five is more focused on whatβs ahead.
βBecause if you concentrate on everything youβve lost and you live in the past β people who live in the past are doomed to die there,β she said. βAnd I donβt want to live in the past. I have been blessed for so many years, but I have great blessings today too, now that Iβm back physically.β
Gifford shared that she had been in immense physical pain ahead of a hip replacement in 2024 and then pain in her other hip after she fell on Jan. 2 on the street outside her home.
She said she also broke her left arm while rolling over in bed in the middle of the night and underwent cataract surgery because her depth perception had been greatly affected.
βWhen I look back on all these years in this industry, I go, βI canβt believe I didnβt fall apart years ago,ββ she said. βYour body starts to fall apart. And I never abused it, I just used it.β
She said she often stayed at home because she βdidnβt want to go out like thatβ while experiencing chronic physical pain.
βI want to be Kathie Lee, the person they expect,β she said. βI donβt want to disappoint people.β
Gifford added that her vision is now 20/20 after cataract surgery, and she can be much more active with her grandchildren after stem cell treatments in her hip and arm.
βNow Iβm in the season of the life where I donβt want to repeat myself,β she said. βI want to be remembered as somebody where if they only met me one time, she made me laugh, (and) she was kind.β
