Itโs that time of the year when Barack Obama shares his summer playlist and reading list.
The former president is known for sharing the books and songs that he has enjoyed over the sunny months, always surprising people with his selections and asking for recommendations.
This year is no different as Obama posted 11 books that captured his attention these past months, as well as a slew of songs that he couldnโt get enough of.
Among the novels that he read include โKinโ by Tayari Jones about two daughters raised without mothers in Honeysuckle, Louisiana. Thereโs also Ann Patchettโs โWhistlerโ about a woman who reunites with her stepfather who she hasnโt seen in 40 years. Obama also read Colson Whiteheadโs final volume in his โHarlem Trilogy,โ โCool Machine.โ The author recently sat down with Craig Melvin for his โGlass Half Fullโ podcast to discuss the novel.
And when it came to his music selection, Obama treated his social media followers to plenty of hits.
โHere are some of the songs Iโve been listening to this summer,โ the former politician captioned his list. โIt starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family.โ
Obamaโs taste in music is wide ranging from R&B and rap with โGirl, Get Upโ by Doechii and SZA, to rock with โGoing Shoppingโ by The Strokesโ to Latin music with Rawayana and Manuel Turizoโs โInglรฉs en Miami.โ
Obama also enjoys classics like Earth, Wind and Fireโs โCanโt Hide Love,โ โModern Loveโ by David Bowie and โLetโs Get It Onโ by Marvin Gaye.
Like most years, people paid particular attention to one or two tracks that made it on Obamaโs playlist. Many were surprised (and loved) to see โMotion Partyโ by BossMan Dlow.
โThe thought of Obama singing โthis a motion party you cannot get iiinnnnโ ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ,โ one person commented, while another added, โMotion Party being on this list is one of the reasons why youโll always be my President!! ๐ญ๐.โ
Even BossMan himself was surprised, commenting, โItโs A Motion Party We Gotta Let Obama Innn.โ
Other artists that were included in his playlist also thanked him, including Sheryl Crow who wrote, โMan, Iโm super honored that someone I admire so much is listening to a deep deep cut from my second record. Very cool, @barackobama!โ
Fred Hammond commented, โHeeeeyyy thank you sir. Truly an honor,โ while Anderson .Paak added, โThatโs my dog!โ
In the comment section of his post, Obama also asked people for suggestions.
โIโm always looking for new songs to listen to, so please share any recommendations in the comments,โ he wrote.
