Itβs that time of the year when Barack Obama shares his summer playlist and reading list.
The former president is known for sharing the books and songs that he has enjoyed over the sunny months, always surprising people with his selections and asking for recommendations.
This year is no different as Obama posted 11 books that captured his attention these past months, as well as a slew of songs that he couldnβt get enough of.
Among the novels that he read include βKinβ by Tayari Jones about two daughters raised without mothers in Honeysuckle, Louisiana. Thereβs also Ann Patchettβs βWhistlerβ about a woman who reunites with her stepfather who she hasnβt seen in 40 years. Obama also read Colson Whiteheadβs final volume in his βHarlem Trilogy,β βCool Machine.β The author recently sat down with Craig Melvin for his βGlass Half Fullβ podcast to discuss the novel.
And when it came to his music selection, Obama treated his social media followers to plenty of hits.
βHere are some of the songs Iβve been listening to this summer,β the former politician captioned his list. βIt starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family.β
Obamaβs taste in music is wide ranging from R&B and rap with βGirl, Get Upβ by Doechii and SZA, to rock with βGoing Shoppingβ by The Strokesβ to Latin music with Rawayana and Manuel Turizoβs βInglΓ©s en Miami.β
Obama also enjoys classics like Earth, Wind and Fireβs βCanβt Hide Love,β βModern Loveβ by David Bowie and βLetβs Get It Onβ by Marvin Gaye.
Like most years, people paid particular attention to one or two tracks that made it on Obamaβs playlist. Many were surprised (and loved) to see βMotion Partyβ by BossMan Dlow.
βThe thought of Obama singing βthis a motion party you cannot get iiinnnnβ πππππ,β one person commented, while another added, βMotion Party being on this list is one of the reasons why youβll always be my President!! ππ.β
Even BossMan himself was surprised, commenting, βItβs A Motion Party We Gotta Let Obama Innn.β
Other artists that were included in his playlist also thanked him, including Sheryl Crow who wrote, βMan, Iβm super honored that someone I admire so much is listening to a deep deep cut from my second record. Very cool, @barackobama!β
Fred Hammond commented, βHeeeeyyy thank you sir. Truly an honor,β while Anderson .Paak added, βThatβs my dog!β
In the comment section of his post, Obama also asked people for suggestions.
βIβm always looking for new songs to listen to, so please share any recommendations in the comments,β he wrote.
