Terry Bradshaw, NFL Hall of Famer, has been happily wed to wife Tammy Bradshaw since 2014 and calls marrying her a βgrand slam.β
But Bradshaw, 77, also said he knows βexactly whyβ he got divorced three times before Tammy, he told Craig Melvin on the July 7 episode of the βGlass Half Fullβ podcast. So with wife Tammy, he took extra precaution to not repeat the same mistakes.
βI know exactly why I married those women, and I only know that because I spent three years in therapy. Seriously, to try to figure out what the hell is wrong with me,β Bradshaw told Craig.
βI realized after my third divorce … I started thinking about my first wife, and I went, βI wasnβt in love with her.β I didnβt realize I had been dealing with depression, and I would make terrible decisions in the bottom of depression,β he added.
Bradshaw said he realized his first three marriages βwere just alike,β making him the common denominator.
βIt wasnβt them, it was me. And I started working on me, and thatβs what changed my life,β he said.
He turned to a counselor, a preacher and a psychologist until he found a therapist who could help, he told Craig. When things started to get serious with Tammy, he tried to not let his emotions get ahead of him.
βI figured it out, and so I dated Tammy, fell in love, and said, βNot so fast, Terry, letβs make sure here,ββ he said.
They waited 12 years before finally tying the knot in 2014.
Since though, the couple has traveled together, launched a family cookbook and supported one another through difficult times, including Bradshawβs cancer journey, TODAY previously reported.
Now, his marriage with Tammy is what heβs most proud of, he said.
βI finally got it right. Do you know what itβs like to marry someone who is your partner, that you would rather play golf with her, youβd rather fish with her, youβd rather do everything in the world with her?β he said. βI never thought that my buddies would take second place, but they do.β
