President Donaldย Trumpย posted on Truth Social on Monday thatย heย would nominate Keithย Sonderling, who is actingย laborย secretary, to take on theย role permanently, which would require Senate approval.
“Throughout his career, Keith has proven his dedication to delivering strong results for theย Hardworking People of our Country, and I knowย heย will do an incredible job in his new role,”ย Trumpย said in theย social media post.
Sonderlingย has been actingย laborย leader since April after then-Secretaryย โLori Chavez-DeRemer resigned amid allegations of misconduct at theย department.
Sonderling hasย heldย several rolesย in theย federal government, including inย Trump’s first term. Last year,ย Trumpย tappedย Sonderlingย from theย U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to be theย Laborย Department’s chief operating officer.
Sonderlingย was confirmed for his deputy position by theย Republican-controlled Senate in a 53-46 vote.
