Warning: Spoilers from โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ below.
Superheroes of past and present will come together when โAvengers: Doomsdayโ is released in December. But there has been one noticeable absence from the list of many heroes who are set to appear: Spider-Man.
Although Tom Hollandโs Peter Parker/Spider-Man previously starred in 2019โs โAvengers: Endgame,โ Marvel has not revealed what role, if any, heโll play in the next team up. But at the end of the โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ fans received a hint as to where Spider-Manโs story is headed next.
The new MCU flick, released July 31, shows Spider-Man dealing with the aftermath of Doctor Strangeโs spell in 2021โs โSpider-Man: No Way Homeโ that caused everyone to forget him. Now, he has to learn who he is, both as Peter and his hero alter ego, while finding the identity of a mysterious being who can control psyches.
โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ also stars Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Florence Pugh as Yelena/Black Widow, Tramell Tillman as William โBillโ Metzger, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Sadie Sink, whose secret role is revealed about halfway through the film.
Initially, the web-slinger believes he knows the enemy he is fighting against, but he later discovers he has been lied to. The final act puts Spider-Man in a precarious situation, where he sustains a serious injury.
Does he survive? And does Marvel confirm when fans will see him again? Find out below.
What Happens at the End of โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ?
For the first half of โSpider-Man: Brand New Day,โ our hero is searching for an unknown villain, played by Sink, who is trying to gain access to the Department of Damage Control building.
Sink keeps herself hidden by using her telepathic abilities to borrow the identities of multiple strangers. But when Spider-Man finally catches a glimpse of her, he runs her image through facial recognition software and confirms her name: Jean Grey.
The audience, and Spider-Man, learn that Jean is wreaking havoc because she wants to find her sister Sara, who was kidnapped by DODC head Metzger for having telepathic powers. While in captivity, Jean realizes that Metzger performed tests on Sara, killing her. He plans to use the same experiment on Jean.
Spider-Man rushes to rescue a captured Jean and stop her from killing Metzger. He defeats a group of Hand ninjas controlled by Jean and arrives just in time to have a heart-to-heart with her. He explains that he has also felt the pain of losing someone close to him, and they form a friendship. Seconds later, Punisher accidentally shoots Spider-Man.
He survives the nearly fatal wound thanks to Jeanโs powers. While he heals and returns to protecting the citizens of New York City, Jean leaves town.
Will Spider-Man Appear in โAvengers: Doomsdayโ?
In the final scene of โSpider-Man: Brand New Day,โ Peter enters a bodega and spots Ned. He decides he no longer wants to face the world alone and goes to introduce himself. Peter and Ned perform their secret handshake, breaking the spell and unlocking Nedโs past memories of Peter.
The film ends and the credits roll. But as Marvel fans know, a MCU movie is never truly over until after the end credits scene.
The one shown in โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ is short, but still includes a clue about where Spider-Man will be seen next.
In the post-credits scene, the screen of Nedโs โSpidey Trackerโ app is shown. However, the app is unable to locate Spider-Man on Earth. The app searches for the web-slinger in the galaxy and determines he is somewhere in space.
โSpider-Man will return,โ text on the screen reads, not confirming when that will be or if fans should expect him to pop up in โAvengers: Doomsday.โ
But, the scene does confirm that Holland will suit up again.
