Jasmine Guy is calling out critics who have been posting negative comments about her appearance following the release of the βA Different Worldβ revival.
On Sept. 24, fans of the beloved sitcom were reunited with Guy and her character Whitley when the actor reprised her role in the seriesβ Netflix reboot. Guy was joined by Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell and Cree Summers, who all had special guest appearances in the new show.
But while many fans were happy to see Whitley, Dwayne, Ron and Freddie together again, others began comparing Guy to the β80s version of herself.
She reacted to the comments in an Instagram post Sept. 27.
βThe internet can be brutal to women as we grow older. It asks us to celebrate life while criticizing every sign that weβve lived it,β she said.
Guy continued, βGrowing older brings change, and I wonβt pretend every change is easy. But beauty, style, and joy donβt have an expiration date.β
She encouraged followers to not spend their time judging themselves or each other and instead focus on loving one another βmaking memories, and living the life weβre here to live.β She also added Al Greenβs βSimply Beautifulβ to the post.
Celebrity friends and fans applauded her uplifting message and left supportive replies.
Tina Knowles praised Guy for being an βAccomplished , Beautiful, graceful, Lady.β
Tatyana Ali called the 64-year-old actor βgorgeousβ and included multiple crowns, sparkle and a red rose emoji.
Co-star Cornell Young IV, who plays Shaquille Johnson in the revival, commented, βYou are so Gorgeous! Even a more Gorgeous soul! I love you.β

Despite some negative posts, Guy has been busy celebrating the return of βA Different Worldβ on social media, sharing praise from fans about the original and the revival on her Instagram stories. Fans have also been uploading scenes from their favorite episodes of the sitcom, which ran from 1987 to 1993 for six seasons.
Guy, Summers and Bell stopped by TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle on Sept. 23 to chat about the Netflix show and share some behind-the-scenes stories from their time filming the original.
Guy revealed that although Whitley and Dwayne were the couple viewers rooted for, in real life Hardison was dating Summer.
βI do really love him, but he was seeing her,β Guy said about Hardison as she pointed to Summer.
She quipped that the set was βquite incestuous.β
Guy then confirmed that she dated Dominic Hoffman, who played one of Whitleyβs love interests, when the show aired.
βIt sounds very βBrady Bunchβ-y,β she joked.
