Taylor Swift Dedicates Video of the Year Win at the VMAs to Dolly Parton

Taylor Swift made sure that her biggest win of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards included a moving moment for an icon who made an undeniable impact on the landscape of music.

Swift, who took home the video of the year award at the ceremony on Sept. 27 for “The Fate of Ophelia,” dedicated the accolade to none other than the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton.

Parton died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

“I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person, without whom just this wouldn’t be happening, and that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton,” Swift said while accepting the speech. “Every single song that she wrote, her storytelling was so vivid and so rich. It was like listening to her songs — it’s like watching the best music video you have ever seen in your life.”

The awards ceremony featured a tribute to Parton earlier in the night. The homage included a vintage clip of Parton, along with a sweet cover of “I Will Always Love You” by country star Kacey Musgraves.

In her acceptance speech, Swift told the crowd that Parton handled her career “with such grace and joy and love and gratitude for the fact that she got to do this.”

“Everything that happened in her life or her career she channeled back into love and gratitude and appreciation for her fans,” Swift said. “I am lucky I got to be one of them, and I will always be one of them.”

The night was particularly eventful for Swift as well. The artist took home the inaugural Artist Director Honors award for making “roughly” 60 music videos throughout her decades-long career, including 18 that she wrote and directed.

Swift also debuted the video for her single “Patient Zero,” which starred her friend and actor Dakota Johnson alongside Colin Farrell.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are being hosted by Snoop Dogg at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Madonna leads with 11 nominations. The show will feature special presentations, like the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors and Video Vanguard Award. Taylor Swift, who received nine nominations, will receive the Artist Director Honors award and debut the music video for her new single “Patient Zero.” The ceremony will include tributes to Dolly Parton and George Michael, as well.
