Frances Bean Cobain made a rare public appearance when she attended a screening of the movie โThe Deputyโ in Los Angeles on Sept. 22.
It marked the first time the 34-year-old daughter of late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love had been photographed on a red carpet since 2018.
Cobain wore a brown leather jacket, which she paired with knee-high white boots, black shorts and a graphic T-shirt.
She is listed as an executive producer of โThe Deputy,โ according to IMDB. The film, which stars Duke Nicholson, William H. Macy and Tiffany Haddish, opens Sept. 25.
Cobain was last photographed at a public event in June 2019 when she attended the Moschino Spring/Summer 20 Menswear and Womenโs Resort Collection show in Los Angeles. Her last red carpet appearance occurred at the Moschino x H&M fashion show in New York City in October 2018. Earlier that year, she was also photographed with Love at a concept store opening in Los Angeles.
Cobain and Riley Hawk, son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, married in October 2023, according to People. In September 2024, the couple welcomed a son named Ronin.
Cobain celebrated Roninโs 2nd birthday earlier this month with a carousel of photos of him on Instagram.
โHappy 2nd birthday to this sweet potato fanatic, free wheeling, adrenaline seeking, nature loving, wind in the willows, sunshine boy!!โ she wrote. โOnce a day Riley & I look over at each other to say โI canโt believe we made him.โ I would live through every hard thing 1,000 times again, knowing it all lead to a present, loving life with this kid. Thank the universe he is here.โ
Kurt Cobain died by suicide in 1994 when his daughter was 1. On the 30th anniversary of his death in 2024, she reflected on life without him.
โI wish I couldโve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story,โ she wrote on Instagram. โI always wondered if he wouldโve caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry nesquik (his favorites, Iโve been told).
โBut there is also deep wisdom being on an expedited path to understanding how precious life is. He gifted me a lesson in death that can only come through the LIVED experience of losing someone,โ she continued. โItโs the gift of knowing for certain, when we love ourselves & those around us with compassion, with openness, with grace, the more meaningful our time here inherently becomes.โ
She went on to reveal how she remained connected to him, decades after his death.
โKurt wrote me a letter before I was born. The last line of it reads, โwherever you go or wherever I go, I will always be with you,โโ she wrote.
โHe kept this promise because he is present in so many ways. Whether itโs by hearing a song or through the hands we share, in those moments I get to spend a little time with my dad & he feels transcendent,โ she added. โTo anyone who has wondered what it wouldโve looked like to live along side the people they have lost, Iโm holding you in my thoughts today. The meaning of our grief is the same.โ
