Fans will soon get to experience Jafaar Jacksonโs transformation into Michael Jackson in the hit biopic โMichaelโ over and over again when the film starts streaming.
On July 27, Starz announced in a press release that the blockbuster film about the King of Pop will make its streaming debut on its platform. The move to streaming comes after โMichael,โ which hit theaters in April, had a successful and lengthy run at the box office. The movie earned $1 billion globally and became the highest-grossing biopic of all time, according to the press release, with the late iconโs fans flocking to theaters to see pivotal moments of his life on the big screen.
โMichaelโ begins with a young Michael, played by Juliano Valdi, growing up in Gary, Indiana, with demanding father Joe Jackson, portrayed by Colman Domingo. Michael becomes a household name as a child before a time jump finds the legend, now played by real-life nephew Jafaar Jackson, eager to embark on a solo career and embrace a new sound.
The film features re-creations of the singerโs iconic looks, as well as many highlights from the Grammy winnerโs career, such as the filming of his โThrillerโ music video and the โVictory Tourโ with his brothers. The movie touches on some low points in his life, too, like his relationship with his father and the moment he was burned while filming a Pepsi commercial.
The film also stars Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kendrick Sampson and Mike Meyers.
While the flick was panned by critics and has a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score was much more favorable at 97%.
