Well, this should clear up any questions around actor Tom Hollandβs dancing abilities.
Holland is set to portray legendary dancer Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic. And because of the role, the 30-year-old has been the focus of conversation for some internet users who are unfamiliar with his strong dance background.
After one particular social media user on X recently questioned Hollandβs ability to fill Astaireβs (dancing) shoes, others have been sharing an old clip of βThe Odysseyβ star absolutely tearing up the studio dance floor with his ballet moves.
βI think heβll be ok!β wrote one user on X, who shared a 2017 clip of Holland, absolutely nailing some perfect turns on the floor of the Royal Ballet School in London. Unsurprisingly, the post went viral, drawing upwards of 161,000 likes.
In the clip, Holland completes a series of fouette turns with pretty impeccable control.
βThe turns heβs doing here are so hard,β one social media user wrote on X. βThe point is to make it look effortless but these areβ¦so incredibly hard. I love this casting, honestly.β
The video actually comes from a seven-minute short film, produced by the London-based Flett Films, about Joel Kioko, a ballet dancer who grew up in a slum in Kuwinda, Kenya. Kioko, who was eventually able to secure a scholarship at the English National Ballet School, had the opportunity to dance with Holland while auditioning in London, according to the filmβs description.
In the short film, Holland marveled at their shared appreciation for dance.
βItβs an amazing form of communication. You know, Iβve learned my dance moves in London,β Holland tells Kioko in the film. βYouβve learned your dance moves in Africa, but theyβre the same dance moves.β
Holland, whose busy summer includes promoting films βThe Odysseyβ and the upcoming Marvel movie βSpider-Man: Brand New Day,β comes from a heavy dance background. In fact, he trained in ballet, tap and acrobatics for the titular role in the West End production of βBilly Elliot the Musical.β He was just 12 years old when he debuted as Billy Elliot.
His dance skills and physicality were among the reasons why Holland was given the role of Spider-Man, several whoβve worked on Marvel projects have said.
